Where Do I Begin????

My last post was in February! We've been very busy. Honestly, I've slacked off on the Blog.

Five months ago today, Ethan St. Martin Hegarty was born at 5:59 am! He was five weeks early! He weighed 4 pounds, 9 ounces. He was 17 inches long. It's hard to believe my little elf looked like this:
Now Ethan weighs almost 16 pounds and he's over 25 inches long at 5 months!

So much has happened since my last post. A few days after he left the hospital he ended up back in the hospital for five days. The doctors tried three different times (many pokes) to do a spinal tap on our poor little guy. He was jaundice, but they were also concerned he had an infection. He was so sick, and we were all very concerned. We're pretty sure he was just very jaundice. A couple weeks later he was admitted to the hospital again with a fever. He stayed for just a couple of days. The doctors are guessing he had a virus.

He's such a good baby! When he gets cranky I have to remind myself that he doesn't get that way often, and it's usually because he needs to eat or needs a clean diaper. Thanks to my friend, Claranne, Ethan sleeps in his crib all night. For the first 3 to 4 months of his life he slept in his car seat. Like his brothers and dad he has acid reflux as well. The night he stayed with the Gleasons he slept in their crib! I couldn't believe it! The next night he slept in his crib. Now he sleeps from 9/10 till 7/8 in the morning! I love you, Claranne!! After John Michael and Aaron I was traumitized with the crib experience. It took what seemed like forever to get them to sleep in their crib without a struggle! Many tears were had by my boys and myself! So I was very reluctant to try it with Ethan. It has been a very pleasant experience!

On August 14th Ethan will be having eye surgery to correct his lazy eye (strabismus) at the St. Louis Children's Hospital. The doctor had us try an eye patch for over a month, and it wasn't working. I'm nervous about the surgery, but we've been told it is better to get it taken care of now. He will likely have little to no problems later on. He also has this strange pinprick bruising that pops up sometimes. We're seeing Dr. Muscleman, a blood disorder specialist, for this problem. Ethan has had quite a few blood tests done. So far we can only see that his blood clots slower than usual. Tomorrow I'm taking him in for another vampire visit. Last time I was able to take his mind off of it and I made him laugh! Cross your fingers and hope that it's just some freakish thing that means nothing!

On to something more cheerful! I stopped reading the "What your child should be doing right now" Bullentin. Ethan was five weeks early, and for a while he probably won't be up with his age. He's now turning to his side. He LOVES to chew on his fingers. He giggles and he's very vocal. He kicks and laughs at his 'friends' above him on his changing table. The animal mobile above the changing table is a hit!! He's very snuggly! Ethan loves to get kisses and he's very ticklish! His smile just melts me! Every time I'm playing with him on my bed and he looks at me with those big dark eyes I can't help but forget all of my worries!

John Michael will be starting kindergarten at the end of August! I can't believe he is five! This year he had another pool party at Grandma and Grandpa's for his birthday! I had planned on making it a small party, but our parties never end up being small. He had a great time with his friends! Whitney Lewis made the cakes and cupcakes! She did a awesome job!!

*Warning* Remember this blog is mainly read by relatives...so excuse my rant about John Michael's math abilities!

We're so excited for him to start school! I can't wait to hear what the teachers think. His math skills blow me away sometimes. I downloaded a basic math application on my iTouch for him to play with. I figured he'd just use the addition. I accidentally went to multiplication. After I explained how to multiply he got 50% of the questions correct. He did fairly well on the subtraction. I've asked him over and over again how he figures answers out. I'd love to get inside his brain! FINALLY, the other day when he was showing his Uncle Ben and Aunt Shavonne his skills he explained outloud how he came to an answer. The question was 9+10. He said 10+10 is 20, and if you take 1 away it is 19. I think sometimes he guesses the answers, but the majority of the time he figures it out.

He's beginning to read, but he becomes frustrated with that quickly. I notice he does a lot of guessing on figuring out words. His patience runs short with reading. He's able to spell some words. I'm not worried. I know once a TEACHER gets a hold of him it won't take him long. Mom and Dad teaching him to read is a bit different than a teacher. I think he'll have more patience with her. He thoroughly enjoys listening to a book. We can read anything from Cat and The Hat or Magic Tree House to an informational book on space/human body/volcanoes/trains/etc... You get the point.

John Michael and Aaron have spent the summer playing with friends and hanging out with Bradley. Bradley has been such a HUGE help this summer! He tagged along to St. Louis, and we/the kids really enjoyed his company!

Aaron is 2 1/2... he is ALL 2 1/2! His smile can also melt me! He can also try every tiny bit of patience I have!! For a while we were concerned he'd never talk! He now talks!! He's getting very good at making sentences that we can understand! He keeps very busy! I think he worked mostly on his gross motor skills the first two years of his life! He is our little daredevil! He will be starting preschool 2 mornings a week at Faithful Friends in the Fall. I think he will really enjoy going to school! He always wanted to stay when we picked John Michael up.

We bought both boys bicycles in the Spring. The times Aaron would ride it he'd always go forward a tiny bit and then put his feet back on the brakes! Needless to say this was very frustrating! WELL, now he's a pro! He loves to put his helmet on and ride. He loves to build Legos with his brother.

There is so much more to say, but it is way past my bedtime! I will have to continue this later.

A Day of Firsts!

Sunday we went sledding with my parents, my sister, and the Perry's! John Michael liked it a lot more than Aaron did. Aaron preferred to watch over sledding. Other than my mom being run over by a sled the sledding was a great experience!

John Michael and Ryan went ice skating for the first time thanks to Kim! John Michael wanted his Mom to go, but I had to explain to him that it wasn't safe for a pregnant woman to be on the ice! He did an amazing job walking in the ice skates! He was actually running at times. I was so proud of him!

Christmas with our OTHER family!

The day after Christmas was spent having lunch with the Perry's, buying a new washer, and spending the evening with the Perry's! The picture above shows the two best buds (when they aren't cranky) telling 'secrets' to each other. I love this picture!

Here's the 'family' playing games and hanging out. The men are drinking hot chocolate I made. Andy is playing dead when Aaron shoots him. Kim is keeping warm after Andy and I had to turn the fan on after we 'boxed' on the Wii! Maybe boxing on the Wii isn't the best idea for a 7 month pregnant woman! *giggle* It was a BLAST though! John Michael and Ryan are playing Ben 10 on the Wii in this picture.

Aaron is such a character!!!! You see him in the picture above sporting the new pajamas Kim made him for Christmas.

So we've known Ryan since he was a little guy at my mom's day care. John Michael and Ryan have been friends since they were itty bitty. I think it was over the summer when we started having Sunday dinners with the Perry's at my mom and dad's. It started out as a good idea for the boys to play together, and I thought Kim and Andy were nice. Now it's blossomed into a wonderful friendship!

Okay, enough of the mushy pregnant talk. I just feel very blessed that we have very good friends that BOTH of us like. John and I enjoy spending time with the Perry's! We're looking forward to many more trips, laughing, nights playing games, just hanging out, dinners, and shopping (okay, shopping for Kim and I!) ! You three are great! Okay, I promise I'm done!

Christmas at HOME!

Christmas morning began with John Michael waking me up (in the chair), and wanting to open presents. It had been a late night, and I didn't want Aaron up yet... So I let him open a couple of presents. To my surprise a few minutes later John pops out! I figured we would have to wake him up, because he stayed up way too late. The boys opened their presents. The Nerf guns were probably the biggest hit. The Wii was definitely appreciated!

I quickly started breakfast. My parents, Ben, and Shavonne came over for breakfast. My Mom and Dad brought over biscuits and gravy! I made waffles and bacon. Oohhhh yummy, it was a feast! I ended up burning about 10 waffles. *growl*

John and my Dad put together the Lionel Train set that John wanted the boys to have! It was so precious to see all four 'BOYS' enjoying the train! Aaron seemed to stick to it the longest.

The rest of us bowled on the Wii! We had a very nice Christmas morning! The rest of the day was spent lazing around....Until we found out we needed a new washer! MERRY CHRISTMAS! :-)

Christmas Eve With The Family!

My mom is going to kill me when she sees this picture of her, but I think her expression is hilarious! I helped my Dad pick out a few Christmas presents for my mom. The pajamas were a hit... BUT the random scrapbooking items were a mystery to her. I think she wondered why the hell my Dad would be giving her a bunch of scrapbooking/stamping stuff. In my brilliant fast thinking I thought she would love getting more 'stuff' to play with. As you can see on her face... I think I was wrong!
Here we are celebrating our Christmas Eve with our family and adopted family members! The Gleason's and the P's (not sure they want their last names here) ARE family! We had a great time playing Balderdash, eating, looking at pictures on the t.v., and opening gifts. Thanks to J, I get to feed my Indian food craving SOON!
My Mom and Meghan (my 'daughter' I'll never have) decorated the Gingerbread TRAIN! Once again, I think John Michael ate more candy than what was put on the train. I know all three of them had fun! I think Aaron joined in for a few minutes.

So I didn't get my Dad's present right for my mom, BUT the three of us (children) DID get one of the presents right! We chipped in to buy her a 10 inch digital frame. She absolutely loved it, and the boys did too. Melissa added pictures and scanned slides (when we were LITTLE) to the frame before hand. This was a big hit! We actually made her cry.

Aunt Melissa and her nephews! The picture says it all! The boys LOVE their Aunt! They were 'helping' Aunt Melissa wrap a present. Christmas Eve was very enjoyable. The boys chased their Uncle Ben around, and when the Gleason boys got there John Michael and Aaron had a blast with them! Although Shavonne was with us last Christmas, this is the first Christmas she is officially part of the family as Ben's wife. Welcome! We love you!

Candy and Cookies!

The week before Christmas we decorated houses at John Michael's preschool. As you see the boys mostly ate the candy. Sadly, we weren't able to take the houses home the next day because of school being canceled.

John Michael helped me make the Oreo balls and the cookies for his SIX teachers! Part of me wanted to just make a big platter of cookies (lazy part of me), but the part of me that likes to create and give won over the laziness! I made the Oreo balls, almond crescents(not shaped as crescents), and chocolate chip cookies. I have to say the almond crescents were DELICIOUS! I'm glad I was able to get the cookies done before Friday. The teachers would not have gotten them! I look forward to years and years of making cookies and such for teachers!

Aaron turns Two! Our Buddy Ryan turns Four!

In the picture above the boys are devouring cake from Ryan's birthday party. His party was at the Indoor Park at a local church. I have to say it was fun for the children and relaxing for the adults! Happy Birthday, Ryan!Aaron and Ryan share the same birthday, December 6th. Later that evening the family celebrated Aaron's 2nd birthday! The boys had a blast with the Gleason boys! John Michael received some wrestling pointers from Bradley and Jared.

Next they both had their feet tickled by Uncle Ben! As I'm typing this Aaron is repeating, "tickle, tickle!" while giggling.
These are my favorite pictures. Anything with both boys in it and they are smiling! Aaron loves to wrestle with John Michael... Okay, mostly climb on top of John Michael!

The next day we had a birthday party at Mcdonald's (his FAVORITE place, YUCK) with his friends. Next year I'm hoping their will be a better solution for that! John Michael's birth month is so much easier to decide where to have his party. Pool party at Grandpa & Grandma's or party at the park?? ANYWAY, everyone had a really nice time at McDonald's even though I wasn't too excited about it.

I think I'm almost caught up on my blogging. We'll see!
