Yes, those were his words when Aaron and I dropped John Michael off at preschool for the first time. His Daddy took a picture of him with his new backpack Grandma Sandy bought him. He's so proud of wearing it and going to school. He said he would walk to school if I said yes. We walked into his classroom, washed his hands, and then I just stood there. I felt this reluctance to leave him, but not for any safety reasons. *I* was having the problem. This whole time I thought John Michael might be scared to go somewhere that wasn't familiar to him. I WAS WRONG!
So Aaron and I walked out, and right then and there the tears started. No, not John Michael's, mine! Aaron at the same time was yelling, "Gogot!" We were two pitiful people. I realized we had passed a phase, and on to a new one in his life. I thought the preschool was to prepare him for kindergarten, but I think it was to prepare ME for him being gone all day next year. He goes to preschool five days a week for three hours. He's having a blast with his teachers and new friends!
Today was the first full three hours of school. Aaron and I enjoyed our first morning alone! We bought a pair of shoes for him! He LOVES shoes! He actually saved his mommy some money! I was looking on one side of the isle, and he was pulling of shoes from the other side. I started putting back the shoes he had pulled off, and saw they were 80% off! The shoes were Munchkins, and fit him great! For a $30 pair of shoes, I spent $6! Thank you, Aaron! We looked for a backpack for Aaron, because he wants his brother's. I figure this time we can get him something his brother has. This is a big change for him. He kept asking for Gogot! Sadly, we didn't find one. We drove by the mall, and he motioned over there. He rode the carosel and we shared apple cider and a muffin. We headed over to the UI Research building, but found out we were there on the wrong day. In all Aaron and I had a really nice time. We'll be doing some library events and other things together. Meanwhile, John Michael informed me that he made a new friend. I found them playing light sabres, SHOCKING. *LAUGH* I also heard him ask another child if his friend could please have the toy when she was done. Guess that's it for now.
