Friday after watching the parade with friends we decided to eat at Perkins. The boys had not napped yet and were feeling a bit testy. I'll be honest all of us needed a nap! I decided to let Aaron sit/stand between John and I in the booth. John Michael sat across from us. Aaron had the wrapper from the crayons they give you in his mouth. He wasn't trying to eat it (at the time), but he kept shaking his head being silly. I thought to myself that I should take it away from him. My next thought was that he'd scream, and right now he's entertaining himself! It had been maybe two minutes when Aaron started choking. I squeezed his cheeks together right away and told John to pull the wrapper out of Aaron's mouth before he inhaled it! As it was pulled out vomit came with it! He puked down his outfit and all over his shoe! Which brings me back to the title of this entry. LET HIM SCREAM. I heard my mommy gut telling me, "I told you so!" So that began our VERY stressful meal. I changed his shoes and cleaned the puke off of his clothes, because why would I actually have an extra outfit in the van? That would mean I'm prepared and organized! The rest of our meal at Perkins was stressful. John Michael was bouncing all over the place, and Aaron wanted to climb on the table. We paid $30 for that dinner experience. A sandwich at home would've been so much better!
The screaming experience did not end there, but wait let me tell you that our boys were PERFECT at the parade on the 4th! Most of the time they sat in their little chairs watching the .....cars go by. I can't say there were many FLOATS in the PARADE. Aaron waved and waved at everything that went by. He really got into it! John Michael waved at the beginning and asked why we had to keep standing up. He had a good time playing with his friend, Evie.
Okay, so on to the screaming episode. After lunch/dinner we come home to wait for the fireworks. John Michael LOVES playing with our neighbor's two little boys(3 and 6). In the backyard the boys said that their mother said no to John Michael coming over. Well, the three of them had different plans. The boys left their yard to come to our fence to try to help John Michael climb over. At this time I was holding up our pool trying to empty it when I see John Michael hanging over the fence by his t-shirt! John ran over and tried to pull John Michael back over. John Michael proceeded to scream saying he wanted to play with them. This let to a screaming fit on his way to his room. John came back out after a while, and said John Michael said he was leaving home.
At this point I realized John Michael needs some one on one with his mommy. With John Michael having a little brother we've neglected spending very much alone time with John Michael. So I take John Michael to his room and we find a game I realize we have never opened. John Michael and I closed the door and played the Globe game. Yes, I also explained to him how dangerous it is to climb over the fence for those of you who are wondering. Once again, he amazed me with what he knew and could do. He found the animals he had to search for right away on the blowup globe. During this game I realized I need to take a geography class! So after a short 25 minutes John Michael was refreshed and much happier. He did end up over at the neighbor's backyard for a while, and I chatted with the parents.
Okay, you think that was it on the screaming fits? Ohhhh no! We prepared the boys for bed with a bath and jammies. John figured out a place for us to watch fireworks without the crowds. Right away in the van Aaron falls asleep. I knew we were doomed at this point, but I didn't know how. We arrived at the area to watch fireworks and we had an hour to wait. John Michael and I took silly pictures in the mirror while we waited. Aaron woke up right as the fireworks were about to begin. Oh LORD! He was fine in the beginning, but then the screaming started! He wanted to get down and walk around, but it was so dark and cars kept coming and going. He didn't know if he wanted to be held or be put down. My nerves at this point are shot. I'm trying to be understanding. I feel like this is my fault, because I knew he was exhausted! I tried letting him walk around a little, but he just kept screaming. I think he was just overly tired. I knew the end of the fireworks was coming up, and I felt my blood pressure rising with each scream. So I put Aaron in his car seat, strapped him in, and got in the driver's seat. Poor John Michael thought I was leaving, but I informed him I was not going anywhere. I rolled up the windows and turned on the air. I watched the last 2 minutes of the fireworks with Aaron screaming his head off. I felt like the worst mommy ever! The screaming continued when we got home. I finally got him to sleep while cuddling with him in my bed. He needed some mommy time too. :-)
